Science

Non-Science majors: Only non-science majors should select from this list of courses.  Students majoring in elementary/special education should take both BIO110 and NSC111. Non-science majors who are placed in MTH132, or higher, should consider taking a two-semester sequence in science if they intend to apply to a competitive graduate or professional school.

 _ AST121: Introduction to Astronomy
 _ BIO110: Biology:  A Human Perspective
 _ BIO111: Environmental Science
_ CHM121: The World of Chemistry
_ NSC111: Introduction to Physical Science
_ NSC112: Introduction to Earth Science

Science majors (including students majoring in computer science, exercise science, athletic training, and mathematics, as well as students pursuing pre-professional programs in dentistry, medicine, or pre-veterinary science must complete one or more of the following sequences in science (because many science courses have prerequisites in mathematics, you should commence your requirements in mathematics during the first semester):

_ BIO  130: General Biology: [BIO 130 is prerequisite to the 200-level biology courses listed below.  Your second biology course will vary according to your major.]

_ BIO 206: Human Physiology [You should choose this option if your major is exercise science, or athletic training. You will/may also need this course if you plan professional study in physical therapy or another allied health field.  BIO 206 is not intended for biology majors.]

_ BIO  207: Human Anatomy  [You should take this course after completing BIO 206 if your major is exercise science or athletic training or if you plan a course of study in an allied health field for which a course in human anatomy is requisite.]

_ BIO  211: Introduction to Plant Biology

_ BIO  212: Introduction to Animal Biology [You should choose this option if your major is biology, medical science or medical technology, or if you are enrolled in pre-dental, pre-medical, or pre-veterinary programs.]

_ BIO  213: Introduction to Population Biology [prerequisites:  BIO 211 and BIO 212]

 _ CHM  101: General Chemistry I
_ CHM  102: General Chemistry II

 _ CHM  209: Organic Chemistry I
_ CHM  210: Organic Chemistry II

 _ PHY  211/215: General Physics I
_ PHY  212/216: General Physics II

_ PHY: 221/215: General Physics I with Calculus [You must take Physics I/II with Calculus if you are majoring in chemistry or mathematics.  This option is strongly recommended if you are majoring in biology, computer science, or computer information systems, especially if you will to apply to graduate or professional school.  Although it may not be specifically required, most successful applicants to programs in these areas and to programs in dentistry, medicine, and veterinary science have successfully completed a two-semester sequence in General Physics with Calculus.  Also, pre-law students who have completed this sequence often will have an advantage over students who have not when they apply to law school.  Pre-requisite:  MTH 142.]

_ PHY:  222/216: General Physics II with Calculus [See above. Pre-requisite: PHY 221/115 and MTH 241.]
