Disability Accommodations

High Point University will not discriminate in the recruitment, admission, educational process or treatment of students with disabilities. In making reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, the University will consider educational modifications, housing accommodations, architectural barriers, and other services available to all students.

At the beginning of each term, a student must request that accommodation memos be drafted for faculty and campus officials directly involved in the accommodation process. The student will deliver the memos to each instructor or program coordinator in a timely manner at least five (5) business days prior to the need for the accommodation. Accommodations are not retroactive so students are asked to request accommodation memos during the first week of each term. Accommodations are in place only after the student presents the accommodation memos to the instructor and discusses arrangements to be made.

Accommodations approved by the University will be made available at no cost to the student. Equipment for personal use, attendant care, and educational assistants to be used outside the classroom are the responsibility of the student. High Point University is not responsible for the location, scheduling, or funding of such services. Requested accommodations not supported by the student's documentation will be denied.

Contact the ASC Director for timelines regarding accommodation requests and for specific information on accommodations implementation. Note: Some accommodations require more planning than others. Late requests for accommodations will not be denied for that reason. However, a reasonable delay in the start of the accommodation should be expected (textbooks in alternate format, reader, scribe, interpretive services, housing).
