Summer Experience 2010: The single best decision to make as you begin your extraordinary education at High Point University in an inspiring environment with caring people.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Summer Experience 2010 is designed and intended for any entering freshman to High Point University who wants to start their HPU experience early, build academic confidence, and make 200+ friends in their entering freshman class. As in the previous 22 years, SE2010 will likewise serve as a great microcosm of the entering freshman class. ALL entering freshmen should strongly consider their participation in the program. A week does not go by that a former student doesn't call, email, or stop in to say THANK YOU! You too WILL be glad you attended.
SUMMER EXPERIENCE SUCCESS!!
The greatest value of Summer Experience is the personal growth and development of the individual and the transition to college of the student. Likewise, academic preparation and success are equally important values gained from participation in Summer Experience.
Of the 183 students who attended SE09:
> 96+% had academically successful Fall 2009 semesters;
> 20% made the Fall Semester 2009 Dean's List [a 3.5 or better GPA required].
Summer Experience 2010 is High Point University's nationally recognized program that prepares entering freshmen for a successful freshman year. It has been recognized as one of the ten best programs of its kind in the United States, one of seven national programs for retention excellence, and featured as a model program at both national and international conferences. Selection criteria for these recognitions included program excellence and the subsequent academic performance of students who completed the program. Since the program's beginning in 1988 (originally called Summer Advantage), our research has proven that students who have completed the summer program have achieved higher grade point averages (GPA's) and have produced much higher graduation rates than have comparable groups of students who did not participate.
ADV1101: Foundations for Academic Success
High Point University offers an academic and study skills course that serves as the central organizing component of SE2010 >> ADV1101: Foundations for Academic Success. The course examines in-depth the academic and study skills concepts, ideas, practices, and techniques student's need in college courses as well as an opportunity for the student to practice and apply those techniques. A student peer mentor is assigned to each student attending to assist students with their transition questions and concerns. Twenty years of evaluative data and results from the course have shown that students who complete ADV1101 earn higher GPAs and have a higher graduation rate when compared to other similar students. ADV1101 has been proven to be the best way for any entering freshmen to begin their extraordinary education at High Point University in an inspiring environment with caring people. >>> START STRONG > start with ADV1101!
