This past weekend presented a major landmark for athletics here at High Point University, which is ironic because it happened to be on the WATER. High Point’s Crew team (rowing) is not even a year old, yet they have managed to accomplish what normally takes a crew team up to 5 years to set in motion! While they have worked around the clock practicing and fundraising as a club team, their success would have been absent had it not been for the support and efforts put forth by the university.
The men’s and women’s crew team hosted HPU’s very first home regatta (boat race) against Wake Forest which included two other physically aggressive events.
Needless to say, HPU swept the competition 🙂
Without the consistences of HPU’s athletics department, the university, and its students encouraging the team’s success, their forward vision would have become a pipe dream by now. However this past weekend proves that so long as you have the drive and desire to accomplish something, High Point University will do whatever they can to provide the tools in order for you to achieve your goals.
The team will be competing at a major 2-day competition in Georgia this weekend as well as a handful of other races all along the East Coast, ending with the college rowing championships in Philadelphia. Wish them luck!
Until next time!
