Presidential Scholarship Program Schedule

The Application Process
The 2011 Presidential Scholarship application will be available September 1, 2010. The deadline for submitting the Presidential Scholarship application is December 20, 2010.

*You may submit a Presidential Scholarship application prior to being notified of acceptance to High Point University.

The Presidential Scholarship Program at High Point University was inaugurated in 1976 in order to recognize and encourage entering freshmen who, during their high school careers, demonstrated outstanding achievement, good citizenship, strong leadership and exceptional scholarship. The 2011 Presidential Scholarship program is scheduled for February 2011. Invited students will be assigned to attend one of the scholarship program weekends .

The 2011 Awards Program
The Presidential Scholarship Program supports several levels of fellowships and scholarships:

Keller Scholarships. Keller Scholarships ($25,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the Keller Scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, the total value of the Keller Scholarship will be $100,000. In addition to the Keller Scholarships, recipients will receive a $1,000 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses. The average SAT score of past Keller Scholarship recipients is 1515 (critical reading & math sections). The average ACT score of past Keller Scholarship recipients is 34 (composite score). The average GPA of past recipients is 4.0 (unweighted), and these students are in the top 3% of their class. These are not the only factors that determine scholarship awards and the quality of each year’s scholarship applicant pool may change these averages.

University Fellowships. University Fellowships ($20,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the University Fellowship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, the total value of the University Fellowship will be $80,000. In addition to the University Fellowships, recipients will receive a $1,000 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses. The average SAT score of past University Fellowship recipients is 1437 (critical reading & math sections). The average ACT score of past University Fellowship recipients is 32 (composite score). The average GPA of past recipients is 3.99 (unweighted), and these students are in the top 4% of their class. These are not the only factors that determine scholarship awards and the quality of each year’s scholarship applicant pool may change these averages.   

Presidential Fellowships. Presidential Fellowships ($15,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the Presidential Fellowship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.25 or higher, the total value of the Presidential Fellowship is $60,000. In addition to the Presidential Fellowships, recipients will receive a $1,000 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses. The average SAT score of past Presidential Fellowship recipients is 1350 (crtitical reading & math sections). The average ACT score of past Presidential Fellowship recipients is 30 (composite score). The average GPA of past recipients is 3.98 (unweighted), and these students are in the top 5% of their class. These are not the only factors that determine scholarship awards and the quality of each year’s scholarship applicant pool may change these averages.

Presidential Scholarships. Presidential Scholars ($9,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the Presidential Scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, the total value of the Presidential Scholarship is $36,000. In addition to the Presidential Scholarships, recipients will receive a $1,000 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses. The average SAT score of past Presidential Scholarship recipients is 1250 (critical reading & math sections). The average ACT score of past Presidential Scholarship recipients is 28 (composite score). The average GPA of past recipients is 4.0 (unweighted), and these students are in the top 7% of their class. These are not the only factors that determine scholarship awards and the quality of each year’s scholarship applicant pool may change these averages.

Leadership Fellowships. Leadership Fellowships ($7,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the Leadership Fellowship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, the total value of the Leadership Fellowship is $28,000. In addition to the Leadership Fellowships, recipients will receive a $500 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses.

Leadership Scholarships. Leadership Scholarships ($2,000-$5,000) are awarded annually to qualified freshmen. Because the Leadership Scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient maintains a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, the total value of the Leadership Scholarship is $8,000-$20,000. In addition to the Leadership Scholarships, recipients will receive a $500 stipend to be used toward Study Abroad, Study America, or Maymester expenses.

The Application Process 
The deadline for submitting the 2011 Presidential Scholarship application is December 20, 2010.

The Selection Process
Students who have completed the application process (including the application and supporting documents) and who have submitted the Presidential Scholarship application, will have their applications reviewed by the University Scholarship Committee. The University Scholarship Committee gives consideration to the high school transcript, SAT/ACT scores, high school activities, and demonstrated leadership.

As a result of the preliminary evaluation by the University Scholarship Committee, semifinalists will be invited to interview on campus during the Presidential Scholarship Weekend in February 2011 . All interviews will be conducted on the High Point University campus- alternate interview dates or telephone interviews are not available.

Only those persons invited to campus as a result of the preliminary evaluation may sit for interviews.
