Inspiring Environment

High Point University’s inspiring environment penetrates the entire campus.  There are constant opportunities for students to be involved, learn and grow, reinforcing HPU’s call to action: Be Extraordinary!

One unique thing about High Point University is that its entire campus is a classroom.  From learning the value of service through community volunteer opportunities to becoming civically engaged, students are exposed to a range of learning labs that extend well beyond traditional classroom walls.

High Point intentionally brings renowned thought leaders to campus in order to enhance learning from a real-world perspective. These leaders include people like Malcom Gladwell, Former First Lady Laura Bush, Bill Cosby and Apple Co-Founder, Steve Wozniak.

Not many university presidents teach a class, but Dr. Nido Qubein always proves the exception to the rule. At 17, he came to the U.S. with little money and limited use of the English language. His lifetime of achievement since has earned him the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, induction into the Horatio Alger Society of Distinguished Americans, and placement within the National Speakers Association Hall of Fame. Dr. Qubein is a nationally recognized speaker, author, and consultant to some of America’s top corporations and students at High Point University reap the benefits of his lifetime of learning and achievement.  In the President’s Seminar on Life Skills, a required course for all freshmen, Dr. Qubein gives students a hefty dose of real-world pragmatism. The skills they learn are meant to help them succeed in all aspects of life-academic, professional, and personal.  By taking the course as freshmen, the rest of their course work is often experienced through the lens of practical application.  It sets the tone for developing an intentional life plan.
