Erica Thornton received a Bachelor of Science in athletic training from SUNY Brockport and a Master of Science in athletic training from the University of Florida. She is comprehensively certified in Pilates instruction by PhysicalMind Institute and is also Functional Movement System-Level 1 certified. She is currently pursuing her advanced clinical Doctorate of Athletic Training (DAT) degree at AT Still University Arizona School of Health Sciences.
Thornton comes to HPU from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she served as head athletic trainer since 2009. During her time at UNCG, she was named Preceptor of the Year in 2013 for her work with the Master of Science in Athletic Training program, and she was selected for the 2014 UNCG Leadership Institute. Her prior experience also includes serving as assistant and associate athletic trainer at UNCG and as assistant athletic trainer at Appalachian State University.
Erica’s area of clinical specialization is in orthopedics and rehabilitation. She teaches in the musculoskeletal evaluation and physical medicine course sequence and will lead the clinical decision making courses in the Master of Science in Athletic Training.
