HPU Named 'Project Of The Year' By High Point Economic Development Corporation

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 6, 2009 – The High Point Economic Development Corporation named High Point University the city’s “Project of the Year” thanks to its significant boost to the local economy.

During 2008, HPU brought in $367 million into the city’s economy, thanks to impressive expansion plans. The university also attracted 58,000 visitors to High Point thanks to HPU-sponsored events. Those visitors contributed to High Point’s economy by booking 5,350 hotel rooms and by spending money in the city’s retail stores.

HPU has also been busy creating additional jobs. The university employs 588 full-time employees, making it High Point’s 11th largest employer. The university has added more than 100 new jobs in the last two years; in 2009 alone, the university expects to create an additional 150 jobs.
