HPU Student Wins Miss North Carolina National U.S. Pageant Title

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 26, 2009 – High Point University sophomore Marie Ventrone has been awarded the Miss North Carolina National U.S. 2009 title for the Miss National U.S. Scholarship pageant.

Ventrone, of Toms River, N.J., explains that North Carolina did not hold a state pageant this year, but instead chose the title-holder through an application process.

“I was shocked (to be chosen), but so thrilled to find out that I had won the title,” Ventrone says.

Ventrone, who is majoring in performance theatre with a minor in vocal music, is an active member of Alpha Psi Omega, the Tower Players and Phi Mu, and is the musical director and member of the Petal Points. In August, she will compete in New Orleans along with other women from all over the nation for the national title.

“I will be competing in the optional talent portion of the national pageant,” Ventrone says. “Though I haven’t yet decided on a song, I will be singing a musical theatre piece.”

The Miss National U.S. pageant is a multicultural organization that fosters positive attitudes and promotes self-respect and self-motivation.
