HPU Receives Gift From Frank L. Blum Construction Company

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 1, 2009 – Drew Hancock, president of Frank L. Blum Construction Company in Winston-Salem, recently met with High Point University President Dr. Nido R. Qubein to announce a significant gift being made to HPU for unrestricted purposes.
Frank L. Blum Construction Company has been involved as the general contractor for two large construction projects on the campus – the expansion and renovation of the Slane Student Center, and the construction of the University Center.
The Slane Student Center was renovated and expanded in 2007 and encompasses 90,000 square feet of space. It houses the campus’ main cafeteria, the atrium food court, campus post office, bookstore, fitness center (basketball, track, cardiovascular center and strength area), Campus Concierge and the Student Life offices. Outside, Slane also has a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, basketball court, volleyball court and student plaza.
The University Center is scheduled to open in August. The 277,000-square-foot building will add substantially to student services and the overall campus environment. It will include a three-story atrium, convenience store, 150-seat movie theater, hi-tech games, private study rooms, three restaurants and housing for 574 students.
