HPU Students Participate In Charlotte Business Competition

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 1, 2009 – Members of the High Point University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team competed recently in the Regional SIFE Competition in Charlotte, N.C. This is SIFE’s first year at HPU, and the Charlotte event was the first competition for HPU’s team.
HPU students Paul Abell, Jeremy Hiatt, Matthew Schiffer, William Rhodes, Preston Ward and Ibrahim Kanu presented overviews of completed projects in Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics to a panel of business professionals. The HPU team was recognized as Rookie of the Year and Second Runner Up in its league. The team was accompanied by Dr. Wes Davenport, assistant professor of business management.
“Having the experience to compete for the first time ever was an exceptional opportunity for SIFE at High Point University,” says Paul Abell, president of the Business Interest Group at HPU. “We learned many things and look forward to competing again next year.”
SIFE is an international business organization that encourages students to apply classroom knowledge about business in their communities. SIFE at HPU is a part of the HPU Business Interest Group (BIG), which is open to all students interested in business.
