HIGH POINT, N.C., June 24, 2009 – Whitney Tarver, a senior majoring in sport management at High Point University, has landed a summer internship with the Atlanta Dream – a WNBA team.
Tarver’s responsibilities include handling donation requests, and coordinating community appearances and post-game autograph sessions, among other things. She works in multiple departments in addition to community relations, such as media and public relations, because of the smaller size of the organization.
She has also had the chance to work closely with the Power of Girls mentoring program by planning “Power Lessons” and “Power Trips” designed to help girls preparing to enter high school learn valuable lessons in communication, self-esteem, appearance and more.
“I’m having a great time with my internship,” Tarver says. “It is preparing me for a career in the front office of a sports team.”
