HPU Art ? Students Lend Creative Skills To Create Mural For High Point's 150th Anniversary

Posted on September 14, 2009.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 14, 2009 – Students involved in drawing and art at High Point University have a unique opportunity this semester ? they’ve been given the chance to help design a mural that will be created at City Lake Park as part of High Point’s 150th anniversary. The mural will be displayed on Sept. 19 at the park.

Sponsored by the High Point Arts Council, the project is being handled by Theater Art Galleries.

“TAG contacted me this summer to see if I would undertake the project,” says Bruce Shores, instructor of art at HPU. “I agreed and was excited for the opportunity to include HPU students from the Art Department in the designing and execution of the mural. ? The Art and Design Guild – a student-led art club – will also be participating.”

The 13-foot-by-28-foot artwork will be transferred to the site on Sept. 18.

“On Sept. 19, the community will participate in coloring in the transferred drawing,” Shores says. “It’s a sidewalk mural, so this will allow the community to easily participate.”
