HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 25, 2010 – Members of the College Republican Club recently took an exciting trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The group went with other members of the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans.
While there, students were able to hear speeches from Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, Scott Brown and many others.
The conference was held Feb. 18 through Feb. 20, and John Gillespie, vice chairman of the College Republican Club, says there was a great deal of college students in attendance.
“This was our first time there,” Gillespie says. “Members of our group were able to meet with John Ashcroft, Newt Gingrich and U.S. Congressman Eric Cantor. … We had a great time and were all very inspired.”
While only three HPU students were able to attend the conference this year – Gillespie, Bryan McDermott and Danielle Quinn ? Gillespie says plans are already in the works to attend the conference in greater numbers next year.
The CPAC is held yearly; past speakers have included Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, John McCain, Sarah Palin and more.
