HPU Women's Soccer Team volunteers In Tornado Cleanup Effort

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 6, 2010 – Members of the High Point University Women’s Soccer team recently volunteered to help victims from the devastating tornado that struck the High Point area.

Marty Beall, head coach for the women’s soccer team, says he contacted the High Point Police Department to find out who in the area needed help. The police directed the team to an older gentleman who lives on Johnson Street. The tornado knocked down several trees in his yard, and he needed help with the cleanup.

“There were so many people in that area of town who needed help, and we saw a perfect opportunity to give back to the community,” says HPU head coach Marty Beall. “It was a great experience for our women to see how quickly things can change for people. They didn’t realize the impact of the tornado and they were completely amazed by the destruction. We were very fortunate that the tornado didn’t hit the university, so we wanted to help those who were affected.”

The HPU women’s soccer team was 2009 Big South Tournament champ and advanced to its third NCAA Tournament since 2003. It was Beall’s first season as head coach.
