HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 21 – Thanks to efforts spearheaded by John Gillespie, president of High Point University?s chapter of College Republicans, the university had the opportunity to host former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush Karl Rove.
Gillespie, who introduced Rove at the event on Sept. 20, worked in conjunction with the Young American’s Foundation. Together, the College Republicans and the Young American’s Foundation were able to secure Rove?s special visit to campus.
Rove is well-known in national politics. Apart from advising former President Bush, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy. During his time working with the White House, he oversaw the Offices of Strategic Initiative, Political Affairs, Public Liaison, and Intergovernmental Affairs. Currently, Rove serves on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Texas State History Museum Foundation.
HPU has hosted a variety of nationally known speakers on campus, including NASA Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin, Dr. Bill Cosby, Steve Forbes, baseball superstar Cal Ripken, Jr., former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Muhtar Kent, CEO of the Coca-Cola Company, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and many more.
