HPU Professors' Paper Presented At NCPEA Conference

HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 23, 2010 ? A paper authored by a team of High Point University professors was recently presented at the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration (NCPEA) summer conference.

The paper, titled “Enhancing Pre-Service Experiences through a Professional Learning Community Model”, focuses on an innovative program at HPU for improving the experiences of graduate students who are completing an administrative internship under the direction of a school principal. The paper was authored by Dr. Vernon Farrington, Dr. Dustin Johnson, and Dr. Mariann Tillery and Cathi Smith, former principal at East Davidson High School and current adjunct professor at HPU.

“We have recently partnered with several regional school districts in North Carolina to offer a graduate program which will prepare students for careers as school executives,” says Farrington. “We have been excited to see a number of our students already moving into leadership positions within the first year of the program. This paper was written as part of a study to discover how High Point University might continue to meet the needs of public school leaders.”
