HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 9, 2010 – Dr. Yu-Hsien “Sharon” Wu, assistant professor of management in the Phillips School of Business at High Point University, recently hosted two student workshops in preparation for the 2010 North Carolina Career Fair.
Wu, along with Dr. Daniel Hall, assistant professor of economics, and Eric Melniczek, director of Career & Internship Services, hosted the workshops to help improve students? resume writing and interview skills.
“We want our students to be prepared for all elements in the hiring process,” Wu explains. “In the resume workshop, held on Oct. 28, students were taught what should and should not be included in a resume. We also reviewed student resumes during the workshop with an aim to improve students’ chances of securing an interview.”
A second workshop, held on Nov. 4, offered students expert advice on how to prepare for an interview. Topics covered included the types of questions recruiters are likely to ask, strategies on how to effectively answer questions, as well as guidelines for appropriate attire. Students also participated in mock interviews during the workshop to enhance their interview skills and confidence in talking to recruiters.
