HPU Professor of Communication Named Series Editor For Digital Games Research Books

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 15, 2010 – Dr. Gerald Voorhees, assistant professor of games and interactive media in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University, was recently named series editor for a new series of books on digital games research to be published by Continuum.

The series, titled “Approaches to Digital Game Studies,” will feature several volumes organized around genres of digital games, aiming to explore multidisciplinary perspectives on games research and criticism.

In addition to being named series editor, Voorhees will also co-edit the first two volumes in the series. The first concerns digital role-playing games and the second examines first-person shooter games.

“I’m honored to be entrusted with this responsibility and see this as a great opportunity to serve the academic community by helping to expand the conversations already occurring in the field of digital game studies,” Voorhees says. “I am also very excited, as it is an opportunity to be one of the first people to read some of the most innovative research being produced on this exciting new medium of communication.”

The first volume of the “Approaches to Digital Game Studies” series will be published in the fall of 2011 with the second following in spring 2012.
