HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 4, 2010 – High Point University will feature an exhibit of both harmony and individuality between a couple’s paintings in the Sechrest Art Gallery on campus as it presents “Mr. & Mrs.” The exhibit will begin Nov. 15 and run through Feb. 27.
The artists, Robert and Lucy Reitzfeld, have their own individual stylistic approaches while still sharing underlying links in their work.
Lucy Reitzfeld uses the world around her as her source of inspiration. Based on images of memory and recollection, her work represents renderings of nature that appear almost dreamlike.
The imagery in Robert Reitzfeld’s pieces is rooted in the philosophical confrontation of 20th century abstraction versus representation, as they battle for supremacy in his paintings.
Both use one another’s differences as motivation and inspiration, and their combined works serve as a dialogue of response to each others’ ongoing creative explorations. While their pieces are very different in form and content, the couple emphasizes composition and the organization of space and pay great attention to color and light, and the balance between these elements.
The Sechrest Gallery is located in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center on the HPU campus. The exhibition is open to the public 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Those interested in attending can call 336-841-4685 for more information on dates and times.
