HPU Graduate Gains Knowledge Through Internship Experiences

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 3, 2011 – Brittany Loomis, a 2010 graduate of High Point University who earned a degree in interior design, has been busy gaining experience in two separate internships ? TOMS Shoes and Falling Whistles, both organizations in California.

Loomis applied for an internship at TOMS Shoes while still attending HPU. TOMS Shoes, located in Santa Monica, helps provide shoes to children in need. For every pair of TOMS shoes purchased, TOMS provides a pair of new shoes to a child in need. The organization is working to eliminate issues such as podoconiosis, hookworm and the simple fact that many children cannot attend school without shoes.

“While there, I worked directly with students all over the country to help spread the TOMS story, and to educate as many people as possible on how much of an impact one pair of shoes can make on a child’s life,” Loomis says.

Loomis recently started a new internship with Falling Whistles, a nonprofit based in Los Angeles that help to rehabilitate children and women in the Congo ? and to become “whistleblowers for peace” in the war-torn area.

“While at Falling Whistles, I work in the education department with a team of talented designers, where I have the opportunity to help turn the facts into a simplified visual form for consumers to understand and interact with,” Loomis says.
