HPU Students Gain Real-World Marketing Experience

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 23, 2011 – Students at High Point University in the Phillips School of Business are gaining real-world marketing experience by working to promote a local company, Drake’s Fresh Pasta Company.

During the fall 2010 semester, HPU marketing students worked to create branding ideas for the company through a host of mediums. Students created promotional ideas utilizing social media, radio, television and print media, and promoted their ideas to the company’s CEO Rick Drake.

Additionally, the students compiled a detailed analysis of the food service industry, Facebook advertising, rationale for utilizing YouTube videos, public relations and sample commercials for radio and television.

“The classes represent an excellent opportunity for students to explore working in a real-world fashion and to see the results of that work,” says June McDowell-Davis, faculty member. “They also learn the rigors of working with clients to tailor promotion to fit a company?s profile, recognizing that each company has different goals,” McDowell-Davis adds. “The experiences should help them tremendously as they launch their own careers.”

Currently, the class is working toward implementing some of the strategies presented during the fall semester.

Drake’s Fresh Pasta Company is family-owned and has operated for more than 20 years producing and distributing more than 100 different pasta products to 40 states.
