Fraternity 'Pushes' For Disability Support

04.20.2011

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 20, 2011 ? The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at High Point University recently raised more than $1,000 at their annual philanthropic event, Push America, to support and raise awareness for people with disabilities.

The weeklong event included a competition between the sororities at HPU, titled ?War of the Roses,? and the fraternity?s annual ?Car Smash,? where the fraternity offered students the chance to smash a used car with a hammer in exchange for a donation.

?I am very proud of my brothers for working hard and making this week a success for not only our chapter, but for the Push America organization as a whole,? says fraternity president Danny Vivenzio. ?At the end of the day, we feel good about making a difference in someone?s life.?

Push America, an outreach program that was founded by the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity in 1977, provides numerous programs educating undergraduate students, alumni and communities about the disabilities, and focuses on service leadership, construction and cycling.

Annually, HPU students donate more than 30,000 hours each year to various organizations, with a large portion of those hours being donated by the Greek community.

At High Point University, every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. HPU, located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina, is a liberal arts institution with over 4,200 undergraduate and graduate students from 51 countries and 46 states at campuses in High Point and Winston-Salem.
