HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 23, 2011 – Barry Wilhelm Jr. was recently hired by the Office of Academic Development at High Point University as a learning excellence specialist.
In his new position, Wilhelm will be responsible for providing and ensuring diverse, comprehensive and individualized academic support for students at HPU.
“My goal is to empower and enrich students’ academic experiences while part of the Learning Excellence Program,” says Wilhelm. “I will make sure they take and maintain control of their academic situation by providing sound advice and resources.”
Originally from Lynchburg, Va., Wilhelm received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and sociology from Virginia Polytechnic and State University, and a Master of Education degree in higher education from the University of Virginia.
“I can’t wait to provide students with a unique blend of challenge and support to further enhance their opportunities while at HPU,” says Wilhelm. “I am joining an outstanding team dynamic and thrilled to join the family.”
In addition to his work at HPU, Wilhelm also plans to volunteer locally with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity.
