HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 7, 2011 – The Department of Theatre at High Point University presented the offbeat comedy “Crimes of the Heart” for two weekends in a row – Sept. 29-Oct. 2 and Oct. 6-9.
“Crimes of the Heart” is a Pulitzer Prize-winning southern comedy written by Beth Henley that focuses on the reunion of three offbeat sisters – Lenny, Babe and Meg – after the youngest sister, Babe, is arrested for shooting her husband.
The production was directed by Doug Brown, assistant professor of theatre at HPU, and featured DeAnna Hughes, sophomore, as Lenny; Cate Lightburn, senior, as Meg; Claire Denny, freshman, as Babe; Daniela Sawyer, junior, as Chick; David Mikulay, sophomore, as Barnette; Jared Goldenberg, sophomore, as Doc.
“The play has provided a wonderful chance for students to experience great roles for our actors,” says Brown. “These characters are emotionally-challenging roles that experience moments of great joy and profound sadness.”
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for students and $3 for children 12 and under. Those interested in purchasing tickets may contact the HPU box office at Hayworth Fine Arts Center at 336-841-4673.
