HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 18, 2012 – Dr. Martie Bell, associate professor and coordinator of health and physical education, and Rosie Tarara, instructor of health and physical education, recently hosted the North Carolina Collegiate Conference on Health and Physical Education at High Point University for the first time on Sept. 14.Tarara and Bell are both members of the NCCC Executive Board. The conference, which has been held previously at North Carolina State University and Elon University, benefited from being held in a central part of the state since members traveled from all over North Carolina.
Conference participants included faculty from North Carolina colleges and universities, leaders from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and health and physical education professionals.Presenters at the conference included: Dr. Donna Woolard, NCAAHPERD executive director; Dr. Donna Breitenstein, director of the NC Health School Training Center; Artie Kamiy, president of the Great Activities Publishing Company; Dr. Kymm Ballard, SPARK Partnership Development specialist; and Dr. Derek Mohr and Dr. Scott Townsend from Appalachian State University. In addition, conference participants toured the new School of Education.
Students from HPU’s Sports Majors Club greeted the participants at the beginning of the conference, allowing them to meet the state’s professionals in the field.
“I have always stressed professional involvement and service to my students,” says Bell. “Hosting this conference at HPU and having our health and physical education majors involved in it provides an opportunity for them to communicate and network with other professionals in our field.”
