High Point University Opera Scenes HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 13, 2012 – The department of music at High Point University will treat the community to a night of music and entertainment with its Opera Workshop, which features a series of opera scenes. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The event is open to the public and no tickets are required.

The program will showcase a variety of arias and ensembles from the operas of Mozart, Monteverdi, Offenbach, Bizet, Rossini and Argento. The workshop will highlight the talents of HPU music students Allyson Goff, freshman; Skylar Fritz, Lindsay Gilley and Stephen Sargeant, sophomores; Amy Mercier, junior; and Jenna Soltys, senior, as well as faculty members Dr. Melanie Crump, instructor of voice, and Dr. Scott MacLeod, assistant professor of music, and Dr. Robert Hallquist, associate professor of music, who will serve as the program’s accompanist. The show will also feature professionals Jeffrey Carlson, bass-baritone, and Elena DeAngelis, soprano.

“The upcoming scenes showcase will feature well known opera favorites as well as relatively unknown operatic gems,” says MacLeod. “It will be an entertaining evening for opera enthusiasts and novices alike.”
