HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 29, 2013 – The High Point University Department of Theatre will showcase the talents of students at the annual HPU Dance Concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14-16 in the Pauline Theatre of the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. The event is open to the public.

The concert will include a collection of four brand new dance works – three choreographed by Cara Hagan, instructor of dance at HPU, and another choreographed by guest choreographer Jacqueline Kalata of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. The pieces will be performed by students of the dance minor in the HPU Theatre program.

“As we grow the program, it is important to me that the students are exposed to a wide range of stylistic and ethnic dance styles,” notes Hagan. “Jackie’s presence not only produced a work for us to show in the concert, but aligns with the study abroad trip that professor Adam Winkel and I are taking with a group of students to Spain to learn about Spanish art and culture – and more specifically about the art of Flamenco and the concept of ‘Duende.’”

Hagan adds that other dances performed in the concert include contemporary dance works, and range in style from contemporary ballet to avant garde.
