Professor’s Article Wins Editor’s Choice Award from Science of Relationships Website

Sadie Leder at HPU, Psychology, Research, Relationship Psychology, Valentine's Day, High Point UniversityHIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 4, 2013 – Dr. Sadie Leder, assistant professor of psychology and associate director of the Survey Research Center at High Point University, recently won an Editor’s Choice Award for an article she published, titled “Note to Gotye: It’s Probably Better that She Cut You Off,” on the Science of Relationships website.

Leder joined the faculty at HPU after receiving a Ph.D. in social/personality psychology in 2010.  Her research and teaching focus on the psychological study of romantic relationships.

“Writing for the Science of Relationships website allows me to blend pop culture with science,” Leder says. “This format makes it possible for me to provide credible relationship advice in a fun and engaging format to a large audience. I am delighted that this article has been so well received by the site’s editors and followers.”

The article selected for an Editor’s Choice award uses Gotye’s hit song, “Somebody That I Used to Know,” to explain why it is best to make a swift and clean break from a former flame.

“Although relationship advice is readily available online, most of it fails to come from a reputable source,” Leder says. This article uses peer-reviewed research to describe how severing ties with a previous romantic partner allows for a speedier post-breakup recovery and a greater possibility of finding a new partner capable of providing satisfaction, growth and connection.

The Science of Relationships website features articles written by real life relationship experts and publishes a multitude of articles throughout the year. To view Leder’s award winning article, visit
