Sweetheart Auction Raises Funds for High School Scholarships

02.25.2013

HPU High Point University Valentine ScholarshipsHIGH POINT, N.C., FEB. 25, 2013 – High Point University’s Delta Sigma Theta Sorority had some Valentine’s Day fun to benefit local high school students. The Second Annual Sweetheart Auction raised $1,100 for the Upsilon Alpha Achievement Scholarship Fund, which awards two High Point high school seniors $1000 scholarships to any college of their choice.

The Sweetheart Auction allows HPU students to bid on members of the sorority and other eligible HPU students for a Valentine’s Day dinner, catered by the Delta chapter. The dates include games to get to know your “sweetheart” and live music by HPU’s female a cappella group, The Petal Points.

“The auction gave us as members and High Point University students the opportunity to look back years from now and be proud that we have done something for two young individuals who can only repay us with succeeding in their own lives. I hope next year this will be an even bigger event so we can give to more deserving seniors,” says Delta Sigma Theta member, Desiree DuPree.

The scholarship winners will be selected High Point Central or Andrews High School this spring.

Each year, HPU students volunteer more than 30,000 hours of their time locally, nationally and internationally.
