HIGH POINT, N.C., April 30, 2013 – Lou Anne Flanders-Stec, assistant professor and director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at High Point University, has been named to the Triad Business Journal’s annual Triad’s 2013 Women in Business list.
Flanders-Stec, who created HPU’s annual business plan competition and oversees the entrepreneurship program, is one of just 18 women on this year’s list.
At HPU, she established the university’s annual business plan competition where students compete for venture capital for their business plans and present their ideas to a panel of local business leaders for valuable feedback. She is responsible for entrepreneurship education and programs, management of Entrepreneurs Club, elevator pitch programs and speaker series. Under her guidance, the number of students in the entrepreneurship program has tripled.
Within the Triad, she shaped the Piedmont Angel Network as its first fund executive, guiding its PAN One fund through $4.6 million of investment in 11 companies and ensuring its sustainability even as other such funds have struggled. She is a highly regarded leader at the regional, state and national levels on entrepreneurship and angel investing.
“I am grateful for this honor and so pleased to be included in the company of such remarkable women,” says Flanders-Stec. “This recognition affirms the work we do at High Point University and at the Center for Entrepreneurship in our endeavors to encourage business and leadership opportunities for our students.”
