Senior Jaclyn Lawrence Receives 2013 Haverty Cup

HPU High Point UniversityHIGH POINT, N.C., April 19, 2013 – High Point University senior Jaclyn N. Lawrence, a double major in home furnishings and marketing, was presented today with the 2013 Haverty Cup.

Lawrence, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, received $2,500 and an engraved replica of the Haverty Cup for her dedication to the home furnishings industry. Steve G. Burdette, executive vice president of Stores of Haverty Furniture Companies, Inc., and Scott T. Miles, vice president of Stores and Development, presented Lawrence with the award on campus.

At HPU, Lawrence has consistently earned Dean’s List recognition, was selected as a member of Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business and The National Society of Leadership and Success, served as a member of the HPU Dance Team, and earned an overall 3.52 grade point average. She will graduate in May.

Lawrence has been involved in real world projects in both of her majors. In her home furnishings major, she compiled an in-depth study of Lifestyle Furniture Stores. For a marketing project, she conducted a focus group for Cheerwine to analyze product awareness, completed a competitor analysis of the soft drink industry and presented the findings to the marketing director of Cheerwine.

“Jaclyn is an outstanding student who can be counted on to do her best in each class,” said Dr. Richard Bennington, Paul Broyhill Professor of Home Furnishings at HPU. “Her personality and dedication will be an asset to her in whatever career she chooses. We are proud that she is our 2013 recipient of the Haverty Cup.”

Her name will also be engraved with the names of previous winners on the Haverty Cup, which is kept on permanent display at HPU. The Haverty Cup was established in 1988 by Rawson Haverty Sr. to honor annually the most outstanding home furnishings graduate of HPU and to encourage students to pursue a career in the home furnishings industry.
