HIGH POINT, N.C., May 6, 2013 – Dr. Richard Parker, chair of the department of marketing and sports management at High Point University, was recently presented with the annual Ruth Ridenhour Scholarly and Professional Achievement Award during the 2013 HPU graduation ceremony.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized by High Point University on this occasion. It was very satisfying to see my research and professional activities held in such high regard by the institution, and I have been touched by the outpouring of congratulations from colleagues, students and other members of the HPU family,” says Parker. “Winning the Ridenhour Award is a definitely a career highlight and will be a memory that I will always cherish.”
Parker, who came to HPU in 2008, holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Alabama and holds a Graduate Certificate from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Since his appointment as chair of the department of marketing and sport management at High Point in 2009, he has continued to lead by example, conducting research and further presenting his ideas and conclusions in six articles, three book reviews and six conference papers.

Parker’s topics of research focus on management, marketing and tourism. His work has appeared in numerous publications including “The Journal of Tourism Research and Hospitality,” the “Academy of Marketing Studies Journal,” the “Academy of Educational Leadership Journal,” the “Academy of Strategic Management Journal” and the “Journal of Entrepreneurship Education.”

Parker uses his research in his HPU classroom. He currently offers classes in international marketing and plans to offer a new course on tourism marketing in the future.
The Ruth Ridenhour Scholarly and Professional Achievement Award is given annually to a HPU faculty member who has made exceptional contributions to his or her professional discipline.
