HIGH POINT, N.C., May 1, 2013 – High Point University junior Henry Molski was recently chosen as a national first place winner in the category of sports writing in the 2012 Mark of Excellence Awards, an honor given by the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Mark of Excellence awards honor the best of collegiate journalism; students from around the country submitted more than 4,600 entries as part of the competition. Molski, a communication major with a concentration in journalism and a minor in global commerce, will be recognized for his achievement during the Excellence in Journalism 2013 Conference in Anaheim, Calif., to be held on Aug. 24-26.
“I was thrilled to receive the Mark of Excellence on a piece that I originally wrote for our HPU student newspaper, The Campus Chronicle,” says Molski. “Having the opportunity to attend the national conference in California will serve as a great experience as I prepare to enter the workforce after graduation.”
The article, “Dissecting the Arm and Mind of Jaime Schultz,” featured Schultz, a pitcher for High Point University’s baseball team, and the rehabilitation he underwent after a major surgery.
“The School of Communication helped me an enormous amount not just in the preparation of the article, but also by sending my to the regional conference that took place this past April,” Molski adds.
HPU’s SPJ chapter was chartered in the fall of 2012 and is one of three active chapters in North Carolina. Molski is the first HPU student to receive a Mark of Excellence for his writing.
