HIGH POINT, N.C., June 7, 2013 – Feature stories about HPU graduate Collin Smith and his companion Ernest Greene aired last night on ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer,” and this morning on “Good Morning America.” Links to those stories will be available later this afternoon.

Smith, a native of Asheboro, was paralyzed in a car accident Collin ABC 2during his freshman year of high school. After hearing about the accident through their church, First Baptist Church in Asheboro, Greene decided he needed to do all he could to help Smith even though the two had never directly met before. They have been a team ever since, with Greene driving Smith to HPU every day for the past four years, getting him to classes and taking his notes. During this year’s commencement ceremony, HPU President Nido Qubein surprised Greene with an honorary degree for his selfless service to Smith.

The two men recently shared their story with ABC News’ Josh Elliott who traveled from New York to HPU to interview them about their inspirational journey. Elliott also serves as an anchor on Good Morning America.
