Senior Scores Recruiting Internship in Chicago

07.11.2013

JoelHIGH POINT, N.C., July 11, 2013 – Joel Wilson, rising senior at High Point University, is gaining valuable experiences for his future this summer at the National Collegiate Scouting Association in Chicago.

NCSA is a company that helps high school student-athletes find collegiate level sports opportunities. As a Sports Operations intern, Wilson, a strategic communication major with a minor in sport management, is responsible for completing projects within several departments at NCSA including: event logistics, scouting teams, accounting and the high school relations team. Along with these ongoing projects, Wilson also participates in weekly training sessions.

“This internship is giving me the chance to see what types of jobs are out there, specifically in the athletic recruiting world,” says Wilson. “For instance, real world business communication is relevant for any company, whether it’s nonprofit, for profit, sports, consulting, or anything else. Also, I have the opportunity to network, which is critical, especially in the sports industry.”

Wilson says his coursework at HPU has given him the necessary knowledge of sports management, public relations and marketing. Upon graduation, he hopes to work for a nonprofit sports organization.
