Aaron Marlowe and Sam Gordon, who are in Dr. Barlow’s PHY 2001 research group, were recently interviewed by Channel 14 News about their project studying comet ISON. This comet gained notoriety this holiday season because it reached perihelion on Thanksgiving Day. If it survived the close encounter with the Sun, its orbit would take it close to Earth making it quite bright and visible with the naked eye. However, it may have only partially survived the encounter with the Sun.
More info about comet ISON is available at Comet ISON news. Here’s a fantastic APOD showing a video of comet ISON as imaged with space-based solar telescopes.
