Staff Member Elected as Secretary of High Point Public Library Board of Trustees

Posted on November 8, 2013.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 8, 2013 – Brenda Coates, administrative assistant for Freshman Success at High Point University, was recently elected as secretary of the High Point Public Library Board of Trustees. The Library Board of Trustees oversees the policies and operations of the High Point Public Library.

Coates, who was previously appointed to serve on the Library Board of Trustees in 2012, will serve as secretary through October 2014. As secretary, Coates will ensure that records are kept during library board meetings and run the board meetings when necessary.

“It has been and continues to be an honor to collaborate with fellow members of the board in service on behalf of our community,” says Coates. “I am abundantly blessed being a member of our High Point University family. My commitment at HPU will aid me well as I serve as an ambassador of both the university and the library.”

“Brenda Coates has been both a diligent and thoughtful member of the Board of Trustees since her appointment by the City Council,” says Kay Anderson, chairman of the Library Board of Trustees. “She has also furthered the already excellent relationship between the university and the library by encouraging student volunteering at library events, most recently when the university Civitan group volunteered at High Point Museum’s ‘History Rocks!’ event. Brenda herself volunteered as well, showing her hands-on approach to the job.”

In addition to her role on the Library Board of Trustees, Coates serves as liaison to the Friends of the High Point Public Library, is a member of the High Point Historical Society and the North Carolina Library Association, is campus club chair of Civitan North Carolina District East and also staff adviser, alongside Dr. Daniel Hall, assistant professor of economics, of the HPU Campus Civitan Club.
