HPU Hosts Hometown Hero Celebration for Olympian Heather Richardson

03.31.2014

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 31, 2014 – High Point University will honor Olympic speedskater Heather Richardson, her Winter Olympics appearances and her World Cup championships with a Hometown Hero Celebration on campus.

The event will take place on April 3 beginning at noon in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. After a ceremony, complimentary lunch will be served. It is free and open to the public, but reservations are required by contacting 336-841-9209 or reservations@highpoint.edu.

Richardson, a native from High Point, represented her city and the U.S. recently in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympics. She also achieved phenomenal success at the World Cup, where she captured the championship at 1,000 meters.

“Heather is a hero to everyone in our community, not just because of her athletic abilities, but because of her drive, determination and character,” says HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein. “We want to celebrate her as a role model and inspiration to our city and our university.”
