Haverty established the award to encourage students to pursue a career in the home furnishings industry. Steve G. Burdette, executive vice president of Stores of Haverty Furniture Companies, Inc , and Scott T. Miles, vice president of Stores, presented Fleming with the award on campus.

“Laura is a very motivated student who is completing both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree within four years, which is very difficult to accomplish within four years,” says Dr. Richard Bennington, professor of home furnishings. “Her drive to succeed will make her a very dedicated employee.  She gets along well with students and faculty alike. She is a serious thinker whose class projects are always among the best. We are proud that she is our 2014 recipient of the Haverty Cup.”
