HIGH POINT, N.C., May 28, 2014 – Dr. Frederick C. Schneid, department chair and professor of history at High Point University, recently presented his book, “The French-Piedmontese Campaign of 1859,” at the International Book Fair in Turin, Italy.
Published this spring in both English and Italian, the Historical Service of the Italian Army commissioned Schneid to write the book to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.
At the book fair, a three-person panel of Aldo Mola, Italian historian and professor; Colonel Antonino Zarcone, Chief of the Historical Service of the Italian Army; and Schneid discussed the merits of his book and addressed questions posed by the audience
“Presenting at the International Book Fair was wonderful,” says Schneid. “It was a remarkable and rewarding experience. To have it officially released at such an auspicious event was truly an honor.”
The International Book Fair is the largest of its kind in Italy, and the second largest in Europe, which brings hundreds of publishers and thousands of visitors to celebrate new book publications.
Schnied’s book sold out at both the Turin book fair and a smaller exhibition in Milan. A review of the book was published by panel member Mola, and recently appeared in the Giornale di Piemonte, a journal in the Italian Piedmont region. The review is scheduled to be published in the Italian Studi Storico Piemontese historical journal as well.
In addition to presenting at the International Book Fair while in Europe, Schneid also taught a master’s history course at the University of Paris Est-Créteil, presented a lecture at the Fondation Napoléon, conducted research for a new book in the French military archives, and investigated locations in Normandy for a potential study abroad course offering at HPU.
