The exhibition will run Aug. 18 – Dec. 5 in the balcony of the Sechrest Art Gallery at HPU. A dance recital and reception for the exhibition will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the gallery. The exhibit and opening reception are free and open to the public.

The exhibition is presented in conjunction with Reynolda House Museum of American Art’s special exhibit, “The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design.” More than 40 iconic chairs featured at Reynolda provide a springboard of inspiration for the chair prototypes designed by HPU students and faculty.

“The quality of work from our students and faculty is of the highest caliber,” says Maxine Campbell, director and curator of the Sechrest Gallery and instructor in the School of Art and Design. “These students gained invaluable hands-on, real-world experience in producing work for a contextual setting.”

“In exhibits like these, faculty have the freedom to focus their design on concept, aesthetics, function or even a combination of the three, making the exhibit an opportunity to view how the designer perceives seating from their own perspective,” says Dr. John Turpin, dean of the School of Art and Design.

Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Admission is free. Call 336-841-4680 for further information.
