HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 9, 2014 – The Phillips School of Business at High Point University recently added Dr. Jennifer Burton to its staff as assistant professor of marketing.
Burton teaches classes in marketing communications, consumer behavior and social media marketing. She comes to HPU with extensive experience as both a researcher and a marketing manager, working first with a small firm in Indianapolis and then with MCI, a global telecommunications company.
Burton’s goal is to provide students with two important things that will make them stand out early in their careers – exposure to the latest innovations in their field and practical experience doing what their future careers will require of them. For example, students in her marketing communications and social media classes build a real campaign, from strategy to execution, for a company of their choice.
“I am so thrilled to be part of the growing and talented faculty at HPU,” says Burton. “It is great to be part of a university that emphasizes mentorship and student learning – it’s what makes HPU so special.”
In addition to her academic experience, Burton worked as a photographer on the NASCAR circuit and had hundreds of racing pictures published in magazines such as Racing Milestones and FasTrack, with numerous photos making The Associated Press wire.
Burton joins HPU with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and criminal justice from Indiana University at Bloomington, a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University and a Doctor of Philosophy in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin.
