HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 26, 2015 – The High Point University Chamber Music Series will feature the sounds of percussion along with other instruments at Percussion Plus: Dr. Nathan Daughtrey & Friends. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the Hayworth Chapel. The event is open to the public; no tickets are required.
During this intimate concert, keyboard percussion will be the common thread that weaves together works by HPU percussion and composition faculty member Dr. Nathan Daughtrey. The mellow tones of the marimba and vibraphone will be married with the sounds of the flute, oboe, bassoon, cello, tuba, euphonium and electronics.
Daughtrey’s chamber works will be bookended with two short pieces by celebrated minimalist composer Philip Glass. The program will also feature the premiere of two new versions of Daughtrey’s pieces.
The talents of several HPU instrumental faculty members will be displayed, including Dr. Danny Frye on vibraphone, Dr. Brent Harvey on tuba, Mark Hekman on bassoon, Dr. Brian Meixner on euphonium, Dr. Thomas Pappas on oboe, Dr. Gina Pezzoli on cello and Dr. Laura Stevens on flute.
Visitors are encouraged to enter campus through the welcome center at the intersection of North College Drive and Montlieu Avenue. Parking will be available for community members behind Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
