HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 4, 2015 – Before a play hits the stage, a writer composes a script. High Point University rising senior Cara Kramer is getting hands-on experience in this publishing process through her summer internship at Samuel French Inc. in New York City.
Kramer, originally from Clinton, New Jersey, works as the publication’s marketing and editorial intern for the theater publishing company.
Her responsibilities include editing scripts, creating social media posts, attending shows on behalf of Samuel French and reviewing scripts to determine if they are ready for publication.
“I have learned so much about the world of theater and theater publications during my time here,” says Kramer. “Before coming to intern at Samuel French, I had never thought about all the work that goes into acquiring and publishing a play.”
Kramer knew a lot about Samuel French before stepping foot into her internship because of her studies at HPU.
“Every theater student has heard of Samuel French, and I was no exception,” says Kramer. “So many of the scripts we study and perform at HPU are published by the company, and no one can doubt the impact they have had on the theater community over the nearly 200 years they have been in existence.”
With a double major in theater performance and technical theater and a minor in communication, Kramer will pursue a career in acting following graduation.
To conclude her internship she will assistant stage manage and write articles on playwrights featured in the 40th Annual Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival.
