HIGH POINT, N.C., March 30, 2016 – Put on your dancing shoes and join High Point University’s Jazz Ensemble for lively music from the swing era and beyond at the second annual Café Jazz concert. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 5 in the Ballroom at the Plato S. Wilson Commerce Building. It is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.
The program will feature swing classics like Chick Webb’s “Stompin’ at the Savoy,” Count Basie’s “Shiny Stockings” and Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing.” Vocalist Laura Hutchins, a junior at HPU, will be featured on some favorites from the great American songbook and the band will turn up the intensity on modern classics like Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints” and Weather Report’s “Birdland.”
“With the variety of styles performed, everyone is sure to find an old and new favorite on the program,” says Dr. Robert Faub, jazz ensemble director.
Complimentary coffee and desserts will be provided.
