HIGH POINT, N.C., March 30, 2016 – The UNC-TV network will broadcast the premiere presentation of “High Point University Presents: A Conversation with Marc Randolph and Nido R. Qubein” at 6 p.m. on April 3.
“Nobody knows what is going to work in advance,” said Randolph during his conversation with Qubein, HPU president. “The only way to figure out if it is a good idea or not is by taking a risk. You have to do something; you have got to try something; you have got to make something; and you have got to build something or sell something. You learn more in one day of doing it than in a year of working on your PowerPoint or practicing your speech and doing your business plan.”
Randolph is a veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur, advisor and investor. While at Netflix, he served as the founding CEO, executive producer of their website and as a member of their board of directors until his retirement in 2004.
Although best known for starting Netflix, Randolph’s career as an entrepreneur spans more than four decades. He’s founded more than half a dozen other successful start-ups, served as a mentor to hundreds of early-stage entrepreneurs, and invested in numerous tech ventures.
Most recently, Randolph co-founded analytics software company Looker Data Sciences and currently serves as an advisor to numerous other startups, serving variously as a mentor, CEO coach and board member.
He is a frequent speaker at industry events, works extensively with young entrepreneur programs and is a trustee of the nonprofit National Outdoor Leadership School.
