HIGH POINT, N.C., Jan. 5, 2018 – High Point University will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day worship service at 11 a.m. on Jan. 15 in the Charles E. Hayworth Sr. Memorial Chapel. The service is open to the public; tickets are not required. It also will be streamed live at www.highpoint.edu/live.
This annual chapel service celebrates the life and work of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and features noteworthy clergy and scholars from across the country. This year’s keynote speaker is Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie.
McKenzie serves as the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is the first elected female bishop in the more than 200-year history of the AME Church. As one of the most sought-after preachers of our time, McKenzie is a national voice for women, servant leadership and social justice.
The worship service also will feature music led by HPU’s Genesis Gospel Choir.
Attendees are encouraged to enter campus through the welcome center at the intersection of University Parkway and Panther Drive. Parking will be available behind Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
