HIGH POINT, N.C., May 2, 2018 – Dr. Michael B. Brown, minister, instructor and author, has joined the Board of Trustees at High Point University.
A native of Asheboro and graduate of HPU, Brown recently retired as senior minister of Marble Collegiate Church in New York, America’s oldest existing Protestant church. He served several United Methodist churches in North Carolina before assuming the leadership of Marble Collegiate in 2009.
Brown currently teaches homiletics in the Doctor of Ministry program at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and previously taught at HPU and Wake Forest University Divinity School. He is a frequent preacher and lecturer at colleges and universities, church and denominational gatherings, civic and corporate events, and at Chautauqua communities throughout the U.S.
Recently, Brown received an Otty Award recognizing him as religious leader of the year by Our Town Newsletter and the Norman Vincent Peale Award for Positive Thinking from the Blanton Peale Institute in New York City.
He has been featured in specials on ABC, NBC and PBS and is a regular contributor to Thrive Global and The Huffington Post. Brown is also the author of numerous books, including “Bottom Line Beliefs,” “Making the Timeless Word Timely,” and “A Five Mile Walk.” Earlier this year, he released a new book, “Love is the Way: Ten Steps to Discovering Personal Happiness,” with a second book to be released later this year.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree at HPU, Brown went on to earn a Master of Divinity from Duke University, a Doctor of Ministry from Drew University, and a Doctor of Humane Letters from Pfeiffer University. He actively serves on advisory boards, including Day1 and Guideposts.
