The Bonner Leader Program

All About Duchante Davis

My name is DuChanté Davis and I am a current junior from Cleveland, Ohio. I am majoring in Middle Grades Education and have a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, I plan to work at either a middle or high school that is considered to be a Title I school (number of low-income students is above 40%).

My current service site as a Bonner Leader is West End Ministries. West End Ministries is a nonprofit organization that offers a multitude of different services to low-income families. However, their primary focus is on sheltering and re-housing homeless women. As a Bonner Leader, I work as a Service Coordinator for West End Ministries finding volunteers, largely from high schools, and assigning them to various volunteer tasks. These volunteers often end up helping prepare and serve food for the weekly community meals, performing landscaping duties, working in the thrift store, teaching classes, along with a variety of other duties. In addition, I am there to make sure that these volunteer experiences are helpful for the volunteers performing them. My goal is to make sure the students partaking in the volunteer experiences are building essential character traits that will immensely benefit them in their lives.
